Recep Erdogan launched oil production and gas pipelines in Mardin province and made several statements on the Turkish gas hub

Turkey is developing its own oil production and is exploring various options for filling the future gas hub.

In the province of Mardin in southeastern Turkey, a number of infrastructure projects have been launched, including oil wells and gas pipelines, as well as road infrastructure facilities, and the Derik Plain irrigation system. The launch ceremony was held on December 17 in the city of Mardin with the participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

R. Erdogan noted that Turkey has accelerated oil exploration throughout the country, 3 oil wells have already been discovered in the region. R. Erdogan also announced the expansion of natural gas infrastructure in Mardin province.

The southeastern regions of Turkey, including the provinces of Mardin and Shirnak bordering Syria, have become important regions for oil production in the country in recent years.

Since 2017, TPAO has started intensive seismic exploration in the Silopi basin and its environs in Sirnak province, and exploration drilling has been underway since 2021.
