World News: Saudi Aramco will develop the Akkas gas field in the western Iraqi province of Anbar

Saudi Aramco, the national oil company of Saudi Arabia, will invest and develop the Akkas gas field in the western Iraqi province of Anbar, Reuters reports, citing a statement by Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdel-Ghani Abdel-Ghani, which he made on the sidelines of the Saudi-Iraqi coordination council.

It is estimated that the field can produce more than 400 million cubic feet of gas per day, Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdel-Ghani said on Thursday.

The statement also said there was also an initial agreement with Saudi Arabia to invest in the Nebras project, «one of the most promising strategic projects in the petrochemical industry of Iraq and the region».

Gas reserves at the Akkas field (Salah Al Dine), discovered in 1992, are estimated at more than 5.6 trillion cubic meters of gas.
