World News: Uzbekistan plans to buy Russian gas
Uzbekistan has signed a contract to purchase 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia per year.
Uzbekistan has faced difficulties in exporting gas due to domestic consumption, its main foreign client is China. Tashkent and Moscow signed a two-year contract on the sale of 2.8 billion cubic meters annually.
Russia will start exporting gas to Uzbekistan, deliveries will begin in October with a volume of 9 million cubic meters. m per day, the annual volume will be about 2.8 billion cubic meters, according to the Uzbek Ministry of Energy.
The agreement for a two-year period was signed on June 16 at the SPIEF by representatives of Gazprom Export, Uzgastrade and the Uzbek Ministry of Energy, but the authorities have disclosed the details only now. They also adopted a “road map” for preparing the gas transportation system of Uzbekistan to receive gas. Tashkent did not disclose the amount of the contract but noted that it “is agreed based on market prices in the region, as well as current prices in our republic and planned reforms based on market principles.”
“In accordance with the aforementioned roadmap, it was taken into account that previously natural gas was sent to Russia in transit from Kazakhstan via the Central Asia — Center gas pipeline, and currently gas is supplied to Uzbekistan via reverse mode,” the ministry noted.
Uzbekistan used to produce and export gas itself, and supplies of 3.3 billion cubic meters were forecast for 2022. China and neighboring Central Asian states were the key buyers.
